The First

Sometimes the light would dapple her face in a way that erased the harsh lines of her contempt and highlighted the curves of her smile, the soft crinkles of her eyes…and it was at times like this when I felt in awe of this intrinsic human being. This girl who is made of fatal fires and serene waves, whose heart is evident in her passions yet never unguarded. A girl who accepts her faults as her identity and rides proudly upon the high horse of ambition, shamelessly parading both her strengths and insecurities. She seeks not to win the hearts of people, but their minds and respect…but still, as her eyes– so alluring in their thrilling darkness and inexplicable complexity– turn to meet mine, I admit with relish that my heart was hers long ago, whether or not she had accepted it.
